history

The first plant for production of chlorine and polyvinyl chloride was commissioned in 1962 in the valley of Chemistry – Devnya, marking the beginning of "Polimeri". Its production facilities produced liquid chlorine, caustic soda (sodium hydroxide), hydrochloric acid, chlorine lime, carbide, vinyl chloride, and emulsion polyvinyl chloride.

A second, new plant for production of chlorine and polyvinyl chloride was commissioned in 1979. In 1983, a modern for the time scavenging installation for diaphragm-grade caustic soda was commissioned under license from PPG – USA, designed by the company "KESTNER" - France, and replacing the old mercury electrolysis, which was decommissioned due to environmental considerations.

In 1988, a dichlorethane production facility was built and commissioned in record time as compared to the world practice. It was designed by "Toyo Engineering" – Japan, under license from "Mitsui Tuatsu" – Japan, and with capacity 120 000 tons/year, and involved technological methods producing no unwanted matter. 99% of the production is intended for export.

The new chlorine-alkaline electrolysis was commissioned in 1991 under license from HUCKER and a designed developed by UHDE - Germany, and with capacity 140 000 tons of sodium hydroxide per year and 124 000 tons of chlorine per year.

At present the production capacity of "Polimeri" AD for dichlorethane is 120 000 metric tons/year, caustic soda - 120 000 metric tons/year, hydrochloric acid - 60 000 metric tons/year, plastisols - 5 000 metric tons/year, technical-grade salt - 10 000 metric tons/year, and ferri-chloride - 3 000 metric tons/year.

The Company holds 8 patents (for inventions, a trademark and know-how). Our trademark has been registered and legally protected at the Patents Office.

"Polimeri" has its own electricity substation, which is part of the energy network of the country.

The majority shareholder in "Polimeri" AD is the financial and industrial concern AKB CORPORATION, holding more than 62% of the shares.

Since the year 2000 Polimeri has been certified to the quality management standard ISO 9001, and in 2004 the Company was granted the right to use the logo of the "Responsible Care" world initiative of the enterprises from the chemical industry.
